An Afternoon in Muir Woods
As a child I remember running through the seemingly endless random paths of Muir Woods, looking up at the trees that seemed to scrape the sky while the sunlight lazily filtered to the forest floor.
As an adult the paths seem limited, easily walked in a few hours, but the trees are still just as tall as ever. When I’d remarked to my father that I had been wanting to revisit this place that held fond childhood memories for me he didn’t hesitate to plan a visit.
When I travel I like to pack as light as possible, and since this was just a brief visit for me in California I had brought the bare minimum of gear. My Sony A7III, an 85mm f1.8, the Rokinon 14mm f2.8, and a tabletop tripod were all I had in my camera bag. These lenses ended up being the nearly perfect focal lengths for creating images in this fantastical forest. The 14mm properly conveys the massive scale and sense of quiet isolation that is felt amongst the trees, while the 85mm allowed me to focus the eye on specific details. in the scene
