Getting Creative with a Timepiece
The final image was inspired by a video I saw produced by the fstoppers where they talked about creative ways to photograph wedding rings, they showed off this concept of putting the ring in front of a laptop’s screen to fake being in any location you desire. This concept seemed so fascinating to me, especially as it meant I could exaggerate the depth of field for product photography, using a high aperture to get the entire product in focus, while having the background completely blown out.
I took this photo before investing in OCF (off camera flash), so I had to use a really long exposure and cheap softboxes with traditional light bulbs inside. This image illustrates just how far you can take an image, making it seem like a high budget commercial image, only using budget equipment and what you already have.
This doesn’t mean having the right gear for the job doesn’t make things easier, I had to be extraordinarily careful as even a slight movement would shift the floorboards and make the image completely blurry due to the long exposure.
