Glitter Bodypaint
The Idea:
With a recent wave of body positive videos and articles of people wearing body paint and body glitter out in public a friend of mine wanted to give the concept a shot and do a photo shoot wearing a shirt made of glitter.
Applying the glitter:
We experimented with a series of different ways to apply the glitter as well as different sizes and colors of glitter. We started with paint, moved into non-toxic glue, and settled on vaseline. The medium sized blue glitter offered a good balance of coverage and ease of application. Mixing the vaseline and glitter in a small cup we applied it with a paintbrush, using it basically as paint. In order to get a smooth uninterrupted almost garmentesque look we used adhesive pasties. An additional stripe of pink extra fine glitter was used across her face.
Knowing I would only be photographing from the waist up, and only straight on or three quarters angles we only applied glitter to the front, sides, and half of the back of her torso. This made the application and clean-up process less intensive while giving a fun additional angle from the back.
The Lighting:
I shot all of the images on black seamless with two lights, a Godox/Flashpoint Explor 600 with a 28” Glow Parapop as the key light, and a Godox/Flashpoint Zoom TTL as a rim light. I kept the key mostly to the side of the model to try to avoid spill on to the background, while the rim light was on the other side shooting from behind and one side of the backdrop.
