A Unique Image of the Google Pixel 2
When I got a new phone it seemed the perfect occasion to photograph a cell phone in a way I had never seen before. I wanted to show off the fact that the phone is moisture resistant, so decided to photograph it floating in a cloud of mist. Using a spray bottle and the timer on the camera I would squat behind the phone spraying water at the camera to surround the phone in mist.
I used a single bare bulb strobe behind the phone to light up the mist, and a reflector on the camera left of the product to add a bit of illumination to the device. The image on the screen is actually the Google logo on the phone with the screen at full brightness to try to match the brightness of the strobe.
I originally tried getting the four colors with gels but was unable to get the colors neatly separated like I wanted, as they just blended together into a greyish mess. It ended up being simpler to photoshop the color in using blending modes to create a composite image where I also removed the stand that the phone sat on and cleaned up the reflections in the screen.
